The Writing Center offers free one-on-one tutoring for all NMSU students and faculty, from undergraduate to PhD. We work with our clients on all types of writing, including writing for classes, presentations, and scholarships, as well as writing for other purposes, such as creative writing or assignment guidelines. If you have general questions about tutoring, workshops, or other Writing Center activities, you're invited to email consult@nmsu.edu. Due to the impact of Covid-19 on our communities, we continue to offer all regular tutoring online.
The Writing Center Closes for Winter Break on Friday, Dec. 9.
We will be open regular hours for drop-in Zoom tutoring during finals week:
Monday-Thursday 10am-12pm and 1pm-5pm.
Current students, faculty, and staff can sign into our Zoom room using this link.
When a tutor is available, you will be let in from the waiting room. There may be a wait during time when demand is high. Typical sessions are 30-45 minutes. If you do not have a current, valid Aggie ID but are a member of the NMSU community, you will need to email us (consult@nmsu.edu) to set up an appointment.
*You need to be signed on to your NMSU account to access the writing center Zoom room. If you click on the link and get a message asking you to login, you will need to select the option "login using SSO" which will take you to your NMSU sign on page. There you will use your standard loginn name and passcode.
If you come to your session with specific needs or questions to discuss, it makes it easier for us to ensure that you feel like your time is being spent well.
What to Bring with You to Share with Your Tutor:
- Any instructions or assignment sheets you have from your instructor (if writing is for a class)
- Any notes or draft(s) you’ve written
- Peer reviews of your work (if you have received any)
- Instructor’s comments (if you have received any)
Asynchronous feedback from our tutors is also available. The dropbox closes for fall term at 5pm Monday 12/5. Replies to last fall term submissions will be sent by 5pm on 12/9.
This is a good choice if you are not in a rush.
You send us your work, and we provide written feedback within 4 business days. (We check center email during business hours, so submissions sent after 5pm are not received until the next day).
To request feedback: fill out this quick form. It will help you share the same kinds of information you'd share during an in-person session; you'll attach the writing you would like feedback on as a file (PDF or DOCX).
You can submit 15 pages at a time, so long pieces of writing (theses, dissertations, specialized manuscripts for publication) are likely to require several submissions over time. Check out the "graduate writing" tab on this website for some additional information about working on big projects.
We look forward to working with you.
