welcome to the writing center flyer

About

The Writing Center offers free one-on-one tutoring for all NMSU students and faculty, from undergraduate to PhD. We work with our clients on all types of writing, including writing for classes, presentations, and scholarships, as well as writing for other purposes, such as creative writing or assignment guidelines. The Writing Center offers in-person, online synchronous, and online asynchronous tutoring options.

In-Person Tutoring (Clara Belle Williams 102)
We offer in-person writing tutoring Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 4 pm and Friday from 10 am to 2 pm. Schedule a time to meet with a tutor or drop by to chat with us. You do not need to have a draft of your paper--just bring along your assignment and we'll help you get started. We can also help with in-progress drafts for any course on campus.

Online Synchronous Tutoring
Our online synchronous tutoring services are essentially a video call with a tutor where the tutor and student can virtually connect and work on the same online document simultaneously. It’s a great option for anyone who is just getting started writing and wants to brainstorm some ideas. It’s also great if you have a draft that you need to revise, but you're not quite sure where to start. You can make more progress by coming frequently. Tutors have the same schedule every week, which makes it easy to reschedule with the same tutor.

Asynchronous Tutoring (Upload a draft, get feedback from a tutor)
Our asynchronous tutoring option lets students upload a draft to a tutor and receive written feedback on the day of your scheduled asynchronous appointment. This feedback is meant to be facilitative—we focus on students’ ideas, we make sure you're meeting the goals of the assignment, and we let you know what’s working well and what could be improved in future drafts.

Make an Appointment

Please use the link below to make an appointment. When making an appointment, you will be prompted to enter your course ID, instructor name, assignment due date and description, and comments for your tutor, which may include notes on your goals for the tutoring session or specific concerns you'd like your tutor to address. For more information on tutoring sessions, including information on what to expect and what to bring to your session, please visit our For Students page.

Please keep in mind that we cannot write your papers for you (or guarantee good grades), and we cannot copy-edit papers either, although we will help you identify patterns of error in your writing and strategies you can use to identify and correct grammar errors. If you have general questions about tutoring, workshops, or other Writing Center activities, you're invited to email consult@nmsu.edu.
